Putting Patients Ahead by Leaving Nothing Behind: An Emerging Treatment Paradigm in Minimally Invasive Surgical Therapy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are highly prevalent in older men. The long-term clinical utility of lifestyle modification and oral medications for LUTS is limited. There a great need safe, effective, durable BPH therapies men who unsuccessfully attempt conservative measures. Enthusiasm transurethral resection the prostate has declined due surgical risk, high rates postoperative sexual dysfunction, perceived invasive nature therein. Consequently, interest grown developing minimally treatments (MISTs) that efficacious but with more favorable risk profile order better align patient preferences. This review evaluates currently available MISTs BPH. Further, we critically examine Leave Nothing Behind philosophy MIST since implantation permanent metallic devices may be associated increased failure rates.
